A story about TellAStory

This weekend's posts are a tribute to... last weekend. And that was all about Tell-a-Story, an alternative fashion fair that's growing quietly in the heart of Athens. (o, think they recently paid a visit to Cyprus too).

As previously posted here, this time it was held in Bios, that strangely atmospheric multispace on Pireos str. Not a multispace in the sense of many levels, however I have witnessed it transform so well from a quiet cafe to a conference hall, to a concert space, to an exhibition hall, to a club. If that's not multi.

So this is what was going on in the front room. Coffee + chat + more coffee (provided you were patient, only one girl servicing the bar, wonder if she took the week off later that day).

At the back though, it was a whole different matter. Tell-a-Story was boiling with hot young talent.

Since the exhibition was mainly for wholesale, I saw no point in on-the-spot reporting. Most exhibits were stunning though so I'll be soon posting about them, as well as where to get them or simply check them out.

I was happy to see the blogger community had a strong presence there, good news for a fashion scene that does not have many ways to reach the public and (rightfully?) avoids conventional press.

Clemmie from Clementine Melroy. Her wicked plane-shaped earrings reminded me she had been travelling recently. "Accessorize" she said.

Miss T from Global Hipster. Camera at hand and photographer colleague by her side, she held quite an impromptu photoshoot at the w.c. of Bios. Go girl.O, and moi in totally no name boots, loving the bathroom tiles. Late '60s - early '70s? Very nostalgic I thought.

Fashion Architect Lopi was there too, but it wasn't meant to meet this time. Here's what she thought of the exhibition.

FWA day2 line-up

Now let me be ahead of you and say that yes, I agree this is not as enligheting as it could be. Mainly because none mentions the season these designs belong to. This year's? Last year's? Spring? Autumn? Take a guess.

However, I've got to give it to them, they are all characteristic of each designer's signature style.

Are things becoming a bit clearer? Hope so.

It's not fashion...

...it's tradition: "Martis" for "March" is what they call this thin red+white string. On this side of the world, it's meant to be protecting you from the very cheeky sun of March (not that I've ever been sunburned in Greece during this month before).

It may be later than mid-March right now, however I'm bringing it up as friends saw mine and lucky them (and messy me) I still had the strings in my handbag so we made a couple more for tradition's sake. They are kinda cute and cheerful no?

Want one too? Get white string + red string, cut single, double or triple pieces of equal length (depending on how thick you want it to look), seperate colours, make a knot on one side, now hold one colour still and twist the other round and round it. Tie loose ends together on your wrist. And you're safe, March sun will be good to you:)

FWA day1 line-up

A few days ago, when I posted the latest on Fashion Week Athens (FWA), The Stiletto Effect very rightfully commented she doesn't know the names or the work of the local participants.

I think it's only fair I posted some basic info from the press release. At the end of the day, we are all fashion readers/writers/thinkers in here so we should have an idea of what we are talking about.

For day 1 (Friday 27th), the shows scheduled are those of Makis Tselios and Kathy Heyndels. Here are faces and creations of the two fashion names respectively: Makis Tselios.Makis Tselios' work.

Fashion Week Athens (to be precise)

So here's the poster. Today it was officially announced at Technopolis, the 9th Athens Fashion Week (or Fashion Week Athens according to the press release) will be held between the 26th and the 29th of March.

Schedule:
Friday 27/3: MAKIS TSELIOS, KATHY HEYNDELS
Saturday 28/3: FILEP MOTWARY-MARIA MASTORI, KONSTANTINOS, MI-RO, CHRISTOFOROS KOTENTOS, VASSILIS ZOULIAS.
Sunday 29/3: ANGELOS BRATIS, DIMITRIS DASSIOS, PARTHENIS, YIORGOS ELEFTHERIADES. Also “ΝΕW COMERS” catwalk by Dimitris Zafiriou, Dimitris Petrou and De light (Evi Retziou and Dapne Iliaki), who were awarded last March in Zappeio as part of Createurope.com, a european contest for young fashion designers.

As much as I am pumping for it, I can't help but sticking to the number of the shows or the number of absences if you like...

Tell A Story, Athens

Ok people, I am officially on crisis. Sh... loads of work plus my camera is missing. Disaster wave or what?

Till I've sorted everything out, the least I can do is keep you posted on what's happening fashion-wise in this town. Here's the latest that cought my attention:12th-15th of March at Bios main stage (Pireos 84).
Opening Hours: 14.00 - 22.00.
40 designers present and promote their SS and AW collections respectively. Clothes, accessories, objects, jewels, t-shirts.....
With live dj sets, presentations, installations, video wall projections and a Tell a Story shop.
A tradeshow for buyers open also to the public.
Tell a Story Party on Thursday 12th of March from 22.30 onwards, with Alexees from Urban Disco on the decks.

Frida's Bazaar

Excuse the absense, things have been hectic.
For those of you in Athens, there's one bazaar coming up you don't wonna miss out on:

Frida's winter collection was one of my favs this winter. Bright orange was a great choice for an otherwise dark season - in every sense. This sale was much anticipated. Enjoy.
