Grazia UK - a live fashion issue

‘Grazia Fashion Issue…Live!’ will be the first truly interactive, social experiment ever undertaken by a print product – accessible across all Grazia’s platforms, including graziadaily.co.uk, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. (release)

And this is the reason it's among my posts. It is clear to me lately that 'episodes' is the... new black for fashion reporting. However this is the first time an international title of this scale is "
handing over the editing reins to fans by giving them the chance to comment, influence and vote on the editorial selection process in a live, social publishing event – even down to the cover shot".

The 'episodes' will be daily films featuring behind-the-scenes insights on both NY and London Fashion Weeks. These are expected to go live on February 13th at graziadaily.co.uk and the whole project, shaped by readers' votes and online commenting, will result to a 264 page issue out on stands on February 21st.

It was clear that fashion reporting would never be the same since the first fashion blogger sat on the front row. This is much bigger though, regardless of who's brave enough to take the first bite. I am so looking forward to the outcome. And what's to follow / who's to follow it.

Welcoming the Danish

Here's where the tootsies came from (see previous post). Full image of 'Designers Remix' show at London Fashion Week. Face behind the brand, Danish designer Charlotte Eskildsen. Pedi is not the only reason this show got my attention.

Not only it's the first time a Danish designer is on the official schedule, but she also showed some very interesting 3D takes of the LBD, with origami hints. Ol' little black dress is finally looking new in this volume and shape, plus the lack of neck pieces has grown on my after an intense statement necklace summer.

Charlotte Eskildsen:
And who is this about to take her front row seat? That's right, it's Marina & the Diamonds sporting a rather dark lipstick, on a rather bright smile. Apparently, the Greek-Welsh 'diamond' is a fan of this newcomer too.

Mary Katrantzou s/s 11 @ LFW

Loved it. Have got to share:

And as much as I appreciate edited clips that respect my eardrums, I must say I find a certain something in impromptu clips that include the actual sound of the show:

Trademark, balanced saturated graphics, fringe details that enhance the movement effect, short lentghs and sky high platforms for maximum leg projections. Hundreds of details to focus on... Play the video, pause the video, adore. Then play again...
Have been doing so all day.

AXDW day 4 - Romina Karamanea

Romina Karamanea is a London based Greek designer. She has shown her collections for four seasons during London Fashion Week, yet this was her first show in Athens. In the past, Karamanea's work has been praised by remarkable names like the late Izabella Blow of British Vogue, Franca Sozanni of Italian Vogue and Cameron Silver, the shopkeeper of L.A.'s A-list vintage boutique Decades.

Her a/w 10 collection is black-dominated, with leather as the basis of rounded, futuristic tailored cuts and experimental details. Check her out:

F for Fashion, F for Fun

If you scroll down my (long) right sidebar, there is a photo of the last show of Antoni & Alison I got to attend at a past London Fashion Week. The theme of the collection was "Fat & Lazy", and accordingly the soundtrack of the show was a loud loop of someone munching on crisps, complete with crisps packs placed on every seat (it was Tesco's crisps if I remember this right).

I thought it was clever and witty and ...shocking, so in line with their tongue-in-cheek unusual humour. Back then I was a student and all I could afford from their stuff were little purses and their collaboration with Debenhams.

Taking a look at their website the other day brought everything back: among skirts and t-shirts, the e-shop listed...money:) (pictured above). I then realised that's what they call their vouchers. Genius and hilarious in random order.

So I thought I might (re)introduce you to this brand by hosting peeps of their S/S 10 collection "Screen Tests":

This was their invite for last September's LFW show - which I sadly missed. I am using it here 'cause it gives you a good idea of what the concept was all about. Antoni (Burakowski) hand-drew prints of sketches for clothes he'd make for "screen tests" of actresses starring in classics like "King Kong", "Wizard of Oz" and "Dangerous Liaisons". Then Alison (Roberts) brought them to life through her designs and yet again, the F of "fun" was put into "fashion".

Celia from Celia Loves also shot some good pics, they are all here.

More LFW! Christopher Shannon

Why does this look like a screen-shot? Well, because it is! Christopher Shannon is showing today at LFW where the fashion world will see for the first time the fruit of his collaboration with Eastpak. It seems that lucky guys at POP had a chance to see it (and wear it) first, showing it off exclusively at their blog (screen-shot).

Here's the official press release, including Shannon's view on the project:

EASTPAK is stepping off the catwalk and onto the high street. The American brand, famed for its innovative and durable luggage and daypack collections, is working with the London-based designer Christopher Shannon for his SS'10 catwalk line at this season's London Fashion Week, before a joint product collection hits the stores.

The pair have previously joined forces on a smaller scale for Shannon's FW'09 line, and the new collaboration, to be shown at London Fashion Week on Tuesday 23rd September, will be introduced into selected stores worldwide in January 2010. It will consist of special editions to EASTPAK's iconic products, such as the padded pak'r and the pinnacle, in new fabrics and colours with special hardware and unique embossed branding designed by Christopher Shannon.

Graduating from Central Saint Martin's in 2008, Shannon has worked with some of the most directional and innovators in fashion such as Kim Jones and Judy Blame . Christopher presented his debut collection at LFW in September 2008 and has gone from strength to strength since. The collaboration with Eastpak is the first time that the two have commercially brought product to market together, with the line due to be stocked in key retailers in the UK, including the Eastpak icon store on London's Carnaby Street, along with some leading fashion stockists around the World.

Christopher Shannon on the collaboration:
“Eastpak have been massively supportive of me and my work since I was on the MA at Saint Martins, its now really exciting to develop our relationship into a full range of collaborative bags. Following in the footsteps of some really amazing designers has been daunting but I think we've created a really fresh take on the range, it will be great to see the pieces presented as London Fashion Week”

The day I found my heart - Update!

Wondering what Ziad Ghanem's collaboration with Firetrap looks like? These images have just hit my inbox from London, shot at last Monday's show during LFW. It's all Ghanem's funky couture filtered into Firetrap's streetwear coolness! All denim pieces are the result of this collaboration. Styling detail: notice the moccasin-like shoes.

The day I found my heart

*

It is all happening today, in London.

Firetrap has joined forces with London's very own 'Cult Couturier' Ziad Ghanem to create a capsule collection being shown as part of September's London Fashion Week from 4.45pm @ Freemasons Hall, 60 Great Queen Street, Holbourn, WC2B 5A.

THE IMMORALIST by Firetrap in collaboration with Ziad Ghanem will be unveiled as part of Vauxhall Fashion Scout at September's London Fashion Week and is a capsule collection. The 7 pieces will then be exhibited within the fantastic City Hall before going under auction in support of The Mayor's Fund For London.

I Lost My Head The Day I Found My Heart.
With such a strong statement on the invitation, we can only guess the offspring of this collaboration will be special.

*this is an image from Ghanem's personal line. His collaboration with Firetrap is kept under wraps till later this afternoon.
