Got bunny ears?

Is it me or is there a growing trend for bunny ear inspired accessories?! I bumped into this cute hat whilst browsing asos.com and came across this pair at LFoF's the other day.

Hold on, wasn't it Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton that gave his blessings to the trend a couple of winter seasons ago?
Whatever, it's fun!

*Fashion Algorithms has done an excellent who-wore-what post, have a look. More images and info on what went on at MVMA 2010 here - where this picture probably came from anyway.

Happy Socks for the World Cup

The World Cup in South Africa has just began (er... Greece didn't start off that great) and this time memorabilia go way beyond scarfs and flags. Happy Socks are planning to keep happy the fans of eight countries with the longest history in football with some special edition socks to... score for. That would be the fans of Argentina, Brazil, England, France,Germany, Netherlands and South Africa.

New York based designer Stephen Wong, creative director of collective Wong Wong (previously Art Director of Helmut Lang Studios) turned those eight national flags into some special edition, truly happy socks, placing stars on them that mark the number of championships each country has won.

Whether you've fallen for the colours, are a certain team fan or fancy collecting them, they are available at Happy Socks online store, Notos Galleries, Fena and Fena Fresh.

Below, is Viktor Tell, Swedish Happy Socks creative director. It was a pleasure meeting him last summer at Bread & Butter. I tell you, the positive energy of these socks comes straight from the top;)

SATC2 - I'll have another drink

Yes, yes, I did go to watch SATC2. Actually, West Coast Cooler invited me + best mate to check it out and PR meisters at Value!com booked a private viewing at a Golden Class screening room. Reclining armchairs, SATC inspired munchies on our table and of course chilled newcomer WCC gave us a taste of what Carrie Bradshaw's life is like.
What did I think of it?

The Movie: Not going to over-analyze. The wardrobe would never happen to the average person in a lifetime (predictable). Even if it did, I am sure they'd manage better outfit sets for a walk at an Arab market. Then again, it's a movie. However, between exaggeration and surreal fiction, there were parts where the message was there: no matter how flashy your clothes are, you'll still have to face the same issues as everybody else. Motherhood overload, married life routine... menopause madness. But we already knew that too.

The Host: Ace. It was all beautifully organised and West Coast Cooler's taste was one pleasant surpise. I instantly wanted to know more about it and the crystal covered USB stick that came along with it was my source later that night. This baby is coming from Ireland, based on wine and infused with tropical fruit flavourings, 4% alcohol, 151 calories per bottle and fat free. Alright. Cosmopolitan, you've got one serious river-dancing, bubbly rival.

Flip-flops 'cause it's hot

Ok, it's hot. My feet refuse to stay trapped, I might aswell start with a strawberry red laquer to mark that. And a new set of flip-flops to keep them happy. Bought them with perspective, gold will look precious once tanned. Precious for 14 euros is not bad at all.
Often I'm asked where on earth do I dig out 'made in Greece' footwear. It's not that hard really, it's everywhere. My shoe heaven is a particular street in Pireaus, I've posted all about it before. However, I'm sure there are similar places in other cities.

*Don't get me wrong, I don't go for the first 'made in Greece' tag I see. But, if the food at home is great, I'm not gonna spend money on take-away:)

Fashion-proof pink

Occasionaly I have these fashion-proof pink moments (somehow it was the plan for 2010 anyway). I am not really into listing my outfit details, but yesterday I got asked several times what are my shoes. Well, they are inspiration for diy projects because they too come straight from my student years in London - a while ago. I guess you can call them retro now.

*speaking of pink, this FTBC Barbie competition came to an end last Wednesday and yes, we had a winner. I don't normally announce winners, they like their privacy, but this one happens to be a blogger, so: congrats Tex!

Swap Not Shop - photos

Saturday 5 June 2010

This Sunday, Swap Not Shop

The 4th Swap Not Shop party is the plan for tomorrow. Clemmie & Melroy suggest 10 good reasons why be there and Life in Athens gives you an idea of what will take place, along with some useful links.

This time SnS goes ethical, introducing the 'U-Re-Use', 'They-Re-Use' and 'Micro-ethical-micro-buys' concepts. This means you can dyi your (swapped) stuff on the spot, have them customized by the Chic & Ethic Lab team and have the opportunity to purchase recycled creations by Afgan and Algerian immigrants at symbolic prices.

Got clothes, shoes or accessories you no longer wear? Give them the chance to a second life, bring them to 6 D.O.G.S. tomorrow.

Laternative is

Fashion bloggers are fashion perfect.
Oh really?
Latenative boys- Stavros Dioskouridis & Panagiotis Menegos - wanted to see for themselves. Don't know if we managed to persuade them there's no such thing as fashion perfect, but we had a perfect two hours trying to. I've had a question (or six) for them too:
1. What makes laternative so different?
We are going to answer the same way our programme’s guests usually do (directors, bands, writers, artists of every nature). “We wouldn’t want to put a label on what we do”…but, if you insist, we are a muzine that deals with everything people of our age do. Music, movies, sex, football, internet, politics, technology, tv series, city life, etc. Obviously one can listen to it whether they are 13 or 73… or even a blogger…

2. How come you decided to have a show about fashion blogging?
We have some fashion blogging friends, there’s a lot of buzz about it lately and of course we want in and we always like the idea of being locked in a studio with three girls and a sound engineer.

3. Do you dress according to the music you listen to?
We believe in the ‘I speak through my clothes’ concept, music and its mythology is a very important part of our lives, so yes we are influenced by that. Both consciously and subconsciously. It’s just that in the post-modern mixer, you can be the Fred Perry indie boy one day and then wear adidas originals and sport street attitude the next. And don’t get me started on vintage. So its great to get across the message you mean to, it’s just that we can’t be bothered to dedicate too much time to it…

4. Music blogs existed long before fashion blogs. Were they welcomed? Would you say they influenced the Greek music scene in any way?
What do you mean by “welcomed”? If you are referring to the record labels, as far as Greece is concerned, their civil servants are most likely ignoring them. Of course they are influential because they are additional channels of information, specialized in most cases and without the restrains of print press. On the other hand, anonymity always feeds complexes and unmet passions…

5. What’s the role of blogs according to you? Why you read the ones you do and how did yours come up?
We made ours because we needed something to support our radio show online. But we are not frequent writers which makes us bad bloggers. We read and appreciate many blogs and overall it’s like we said in the previous question. More unfiltered information, new writing styles, often inconceivable passion for research and of course loads of bitching by people who do not have the guts to sign with their name or do not have the opportunity to say what they’ve got to say in traditional media. Perfect!

6. Which songs would you choose to play if my post was a radio show?
OF MONTREAL – Suffer For Fashion/ DIMITRI FROM PARIS – A Very Stylish Girl/ PET SHOP BOYS – Opportunities (Let’s Make Lots Of Money)/ FRANZ FERDINAND – No You Girls/ BLACK KIDS – I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You/ ROXETTE – The Look

Ring a bow

New ring. No seriously, it's a ring.
I have a thing for gift-bows thus this was a yei upon sight - even though I am not a rings person. It's another one of my Sugarline Productions treasures, all glossy-fied, covered by liquid glass.
Came in many colours but I went for gold. Once slid on my finger some irony effect hit me and I just had to have it. Sugarline Productions will be participating at the Synch version of the MeetMarket starting tomorrow*

*I heard you have to be a Synch ticket holder to enter the area so keep it in mind.

Jean Michel Jarre last night

These shoes* went to Jean Michel Jarre's live performance in Athens last night. After having seen this, it's gonna take a while before anything impresses me. Two full hours and none in the packed TaeKwonDo stadium wanted it to end. A breathtaking laser show, retro pop projections, a crowd pleasing performance and electro-ambient music that set off instant mind trips.
Cannot get over it.
Here's a peep - sound doesn't do it justice but hey.

Had to smile at this sight: thousands of cameras on. Can anyone remember what life was like without them?
*Topshop, maybe 6 years ago? Some things just won't wear off.
