Aforest-design in Athens too

It was great to meet in person Portugese Sara Lamúrias at Who's Next. Sara is the creative power behind the brand aforest-design. A purse that is also a scarf, an add-on hoodie for extra casual perfection on every jacket or a backpack with a hood for sudden cold spells were among the wonders of her new collection. Sweet and relaxed as she is, I thought she was the perfect model to bring these accessories to life. She was kind enough to pose for me. Her ss10 collection will soon be shown in Athens too, as this brand is among the many Greek and international names participating in Tell a Story #5.

Carrying a gun

It wasn't all Prêt-à-Porter in Paris. It was also Who's Next. Wouldn't miss is for the world, since the spirit is exactly that: Who's Next in the fashion scene. Amongst the hundreds of brands I got to see there, today I chose to post about Vlieger & Vandam. That's partly because I find their designs so unique but also, -allow me the cheeky-ness- because I felt like shooting the tv last night whilst watching the political debate (by the way excuse the twits, they must have been all Greek to you!). Vlieger & Vandam bags are so rock'n'roll but also smart enough to carry at work, perfectly manufactured and shaped to fit it all. The Athens audience will have the chance to see the SS10 collection at Tell a Story #5 this coming weekend!

It is all happening today, in London.

Firetrap has joined forces with London's very own 'Cult Couturier' Ziad Ghanem to create a capsule collection being shown as part of September's London Fashion Week from 4.45pm @ Freemasons Hall, 60 Great Queen Street, Holbourn, WC2B 5A.

THE IMMORALIST by Firetrap in collaboration with Ziad Ghanem will be unveiled as part of Vauxhall Fashion Scout at September's London Fashion Week and is a capsule collection. The 7 pieces will then be exhibited within the fantastic City Hall before going under auction in support of The Mayor's Fund For London.

I Lost My Head The Day I Found My Heart.
With such a strong statement on the invitation, we can only guess the offspring of this collaboration will be special.

Giveaway winner

This was more than just a giveaway. It was a good excuse to raise awareness about eco-fashion but also an opportunity to hold an impromptu survey as to whether fashion is "less" or "excess" to us. It looks like it's going to be "less" for this blog, since 59% of the participants say so. However, 34% (myself included) are proud people of "excess" whereas 7% are having an inconclusive inner battle about it!

A mirror like Sunday.

I'd say this is a cool diy project, but you'd have to break one to many beautiful tea sets to recreate! I must have been the last visitor in the exhibition (nearly getting locked in) when my eye caught my reflection in Art's mirror. So big, it was a piece of furniture in its own right, sitting on wheels and occupying a great deal of space. Not sure if it was the heart shape that was still spreading love even though there was none there to share or all these pieces of China that brought to mind happy Sunday tea gatherings with friends. Somehow, this mirror felt like Sunday.

FeelingVintage, today

FeelingVintage is a brand all about vintage fashion and second hand clothes. Since their store is an eshop currently under construction, they are wondering around Athens and this weekend is a good chance to get to know them. They will be at the "Eco" edition of The Meet Market, taking place at Pure Bliss, Romvis 24 in Athens.




I've been informed they are packed with dresses from the 70’s and a great selection of 80’s and 90’s stuff. Some clothing is not even ever worn, some are second-hand and everything is retro. From sportswear to one-of-a-kind evening gowns, clothes are in great condition, very well preserved and in affordable prices. Look out for surprises from the past lying around as every item is unique!

The "FeelingVintage" concept is all about creating eco-awareness in the way we dress, just like trying to ride a bike in the city, eating biological food, using planet friendly detergents and cosmetics, recycling, volunteering to environmental actions.

In their own simple words: Why does this inner necessity of constantly buying new stuff still remain? You could think of an alternative way of dressing up, mixing vintage or second hand clothes with new ones!

Printemps go wild

I was going for the windows of Galleries Lafayette, but I found Printemps September windows totally ...wild. It's not the first time I see (immaculate) stuffed animals at prestigeous French windows. Last winter Style Bubble had posted about it too. I still find it weird though, sitting there lifeless and used as hangers. Whether weird or wonderful, they are impressive I guess. What do you think?

(or is it? I suspect a dead animal is still there, only in the shape of...a bag!)

This brand is familiar...

...I thought and moved closer. "Celia Kritharioti - Greece". Celia may not have been there in person -she is a mother of four now if I'm not mistaken- but her new pret-a-porter line 5226 was on display, ready for ss '10.



This line is quite fresh, now running its second year. However Celia and her brother and associate Nikos decided it was time to show it to the world and there it was, in Paris. I was informed it hit it off particularly well with Spanish and Arab buyers. I was also given Kritharioti's profile which read she is "an owner and innovator of an emblematic and esteemed Greek fashion salon established in 1906(...)", House Tsouhlou that is, which brought in mind this* old sweet story of fashion success. (*sorry, it's all Greek! try this)

"5226" stands for Celia & Nikos Krithariotis father's date of birth. Touching tribute.

Last but not least, Celia Kritharioti was recently appointed to design Olympic Airlines' new uniforms, expected to look like this:

Bloggers meet

Meeting someone familiar when you are miles away from home is always a pleasant surprise. Even more so, if this someone you only knew till then through posts on her blog! Vicki from Magpie Girl (left) was at the Prêt-à-Porter too and after two days of texting we managed to meet face to face. She is really lovely and wish we had time for more than a quick coffee at the press lounge! At the moment she is also posting about that trip, you can check out how it was for her here and here. While exchanging notes and views on the exhibition, I found particularly interesting one of the brands she came to see, French HUG AN'CO. Seems like the rounded tulip shapes and sophisticated pleats and cuts they were into are going to be big next Spring:


I found the collage on their wall rather inspiring...

Finally, Vicki passed on an award to me the other day and I am ever so flattered:

Seeing the eye-lashes on the bottom of this image, Vicki's amazing Girls Aloud eye-lashes come to mind. It was one detail I didn't notice at first (looked so natural!) but were such a nice touch!! It is not easy to choose whom to pass it on to since all the blogs on my right column are daily reads to me...

I'm giving it to Life in Athens, Fashion Paths and Las Niñas y Los Niños who I also got to meet in person recently, just like Vicki...
